What Does an Artist Manager Do?

An artist manager is a coordinator of the artist's career, not a producer and not a promoter. The manager owns the operating system around the artist's work.

The practical job is to make sure nothing falls through a gap. Releases are planned, bookings are confirmed, brand work is scoped, partnerships are documented, and the calendar is honest.

A manager also owns the paperwork that comes with the work. Every release needs rights and metadata. Every booking needs a contract and a schedule. Every partnership needs a clear read on what each side contributes.

The manager does not decide what the artist should sound like. The artist decides that. The manager owns what happens around the sound: the releases, the bookings, the brand work, and the planning.

The most useful question a manager asks is not what is next. It is what should not be done next. A manager protects the artist's time by saying no to activities that do not fit the catalog, the audience, or the roadmap.
