How Isrc Codes Are Structured

The ISRC format is L-ABCD-12-34567. The L is the release marker. The ABCD identifies the country. The 12 identifies the registrant, such as the label or the distributor. The 34567 identifies the specific recording.

The code should be assigned by the rights holder or a licensed distributor. The owner of the recording should be recorded so the correct rights holder is identified.

A correctly recorded ISRC makes the release identifiable. A release without the right ISRC will have its streams attributed incorrectly.
