Independent Label Distribution

Independent labels are built to scale without becoming a corporation. Distribution is the infrastructure that makes that possible.

The label's job is to own the catalog and the decisions. The partner's job is to own the delivery. When both sides know their role, the label can run a calendar of releases.

A good distribution partner for an independent label receives releases through a standard handoff, validates the artwork and metadata, deploys on the agreed date, and returns clear monthly reporting. The label can then use that data to decide what the next release should be.

The important principle is that the label keeps its name, its roster, and its decisions. The distribution is a tool. It is not a partner in the creative sense.

Distribution quality is the first thing a label should check before choosing a partner. If the releases are deployed cleanly and the metadata is correct, the label can focus on the music and the business.
